The Flying Scotsman Departs On Inaugural Run

The Flying Scotsman departed London King’s Cross this morning en route to York on its inaugural run after restoration.

After ten years and £4.2 million spent the loco has been restored to its historic British Rail green and is now running the famous route up the East Coast of Britain – dubbed the ‘route of the Flying Scotsman’ – where it will terminate in York around midday today.

A huge number of spectators turned up to see the departure at King’s Cross.

And photos have been gathering as it sets off on its maiden voyage.

A few lucky people even managed to secure a ticket on board, with a Champagne breakfast served on departure.

One man who was guaranteed not to miss the trip is Michael Portillo, who turned up with his copy of Bradshaw’s Flying Scotsman.
