These are the top 10 beaches in the UK

Salcombe beach in Devon has been voted as the best beach in Britain in a new study, closely ousting Weymouth of the same county and North Yorkshire’s Whitby.

Online searches for ‘staycations’ and bookings for holidays in the UK have increased by almost a quarter in 2017 compared to 2016, according to data analysts, which means more people than ever will be looking to hit the British shores this summer.

With over 7,700 miles of coastline there’s a lot to choose from in the UK, but thanks to a new survey of 2,700 McCarthy & Stone customers we now know which places rank among the cream of the crop.

Salcombe and Weymouth took the top two places in the survey, followed by southern counerparts such as St Ives in Cornwall and Deal in Kent.

Norfolk’s Cromer came in sixth place and Sussex completed the list with beaches in Worthing and Hastings.

The overall vote breakdown of top destinations is as follows:

1. Salcombe, Devon

2. Weymouth, Dorset

3. Whitby, North Yorkshire

4. St. Ives, Cornwall

5. Bamburgh, Northumberland

6. Cromer, Norfolk

7. Shanklin, Isle of Wight

8. Deal, Kent

9. Worthing, West Sussex

10. Hastings, East Sussex
