Seaham Hall – Review

The first thing to say about the trip was that there was a huge mistake, caused by yours truly. I am born and raised just up the road from Seaham Hall, in Newcastle, and I always get the rapid three-hour train journey home.

For some reason me and Mrs TLE and I drove…seven hours later we arrived, missing out valuable hours at this luxurious venue.

Seaham Hall is a spa hotel nestled beside the wild North Eastern coastline. The impressive white Georgian building sits a hundred yards or so back from the water’s edge.

The huge building is actually home to twenty rooms, so even though it is on a grand scale it is actually a boutique hotel.

The room we were given was huge with floor to ceiling windows and a view onto luxurious gardens. The bathroom was also sizeable with a freestanding bath in the middle of the room. It was five star luxury at its best, with a fantastic range expensive toiletries, which never fails to bring a smile to Mrs TLE’s mouth.

The spa and gym area is in an adjacent building, but is ingeniously linked via an underground passage, which doors open automatically and for some reason reminded us of a James Bond film.

Mrs TLE booked into the spa as I checked out the gym. Mine wasn’t much fun (the gym never is to be honest) but the gym is fully equipped and overlooks the pool area. I just don’t enjoy the gym, so looking at people having fun in the warm water, was tough! However, everyone seemed to be having a great time, apart from me.

When I met Mrs TLE at the poolside after her massage she was as relaxed as it was possible to be. She rated the massage in her top three ever, and she has had a lot, my massages don’t come in the top 50 apparently.

We used the pool, various Jacuzzis (including an outdoor one), steam, sauna, and ice bath.

After taking full advantage of the excellent facilities we went into the bar area where we ate fantastic Thai food, just want we needed after a day of pampering.

After a much-needed rest, we were hungry again and ate dinner in the high-spec dining area, in the main hotel. The food was cooked to a very high standard and we couldn’t have asked for anymore. We indulged in the full three courses and shared a fantastic bottle of wine.

We got up the next day after a great night’s sleep, but we were stressed again already, as we had to face the drive home. So please take my advice twice. One, please visit this venue you will not be disappointed and two let the train take the strain.
