The InterContinental London at the O2 opened just over six months ago on the Greenwich Peninsula, London’s rejuvenated historic, entertainment and financial gateway. It’s surrounded by impressive architecture, maritime heritage, state-of-the-art entertainment venues and spectacular views of the River Thames, Canary Wharf and iconic London landmarks.
With the hotel incorporating the local heritage, this 5* luxury hotel is well-suited for cosmopolitan guests, and is an ideal resting place for visitors of the O2, travellers and business stays.
Location
The hotel is adjacent to the O2 arena with its own direct access. It’s close to famous attractions within Royal Greenwich, including Cutty Sark, Greenwich Observatory and the Maritime Museum.
Just 400m from North Greenwich underground station and North Greenwich Pier, there’s easy access into Canary Wharf and Central London via the Jubilee underground line or the Thames Clipper. The Emirates cable car is also a short walk away connecting you to Docklands and the Excel Centre.
Rooms
Having previously stayed in the Intercontinental in Ealing, London and Doha, Qatar, the hotel accommodation doesn’t disappoint.
It has 453 rooms and suites overlooking river views. Each room is designed with miraculous precision, and they include a fancy coffee-making machine in every room. With floor to ceiling windows, rooms are light and take advantage of the views.
For a standard room, prices range from £180-£250 per night. The hotel also has club rooms giving guests access to a club lounge. Prices as of today (2 August 2016) range from £379 for a king club room to £604 for a city view club suite. For those who can afford it, the presidential penthouse is priced today at £2,229.
Restaurants and bars
The hotel has five destination-inspired restaurants and bars, including fine-dining. Diners at the Market Brasserie and The Peninsula Restaurant will bask in the expansive views over the Thames and Canary Wharf, while the Clipper Bar’s 270-degree windows provide uninterrupted scenes of London’s skyline, iconic landmarks and the river.
If you visit the 18th floor rooftop sky bar, Eighteen, it overlooks dramatic panoramas of London’s skyline. You can enjoy these views while you’re waited on by staff in its luxury seating.
Prices are slightly higher than in the O2. A glass of prosecco would cost you around £9 compared to £6 in the O2 – however, there was a vast difference in the quality of the drink at the hotel and is well worth it if you appreciate good quality drinks.
Spa
Walking into the spa provided an overwhelming sense of relaxation, from the décor to the smell. The pool area is for hotel guests only and is surrounded by sunbeds. A day here will definitely have you revitalised.
Events and meeting rooms
The hotel provides a new large-scale venue of choice in the capital. The hotel’s conference centre boasts a 3,100sqm pillar-free ballroom – one of the largest in Europe – with an additional 19 meeting rooms, organiser’s office and a 1,600sqm pre-function space exposing dramatic views of Canary Wharf.
If you’re seeking to enjoy the allure of global etiquette, timeless experiences and the city’s local heritage, this hotel won’t disappoint you.
