The best thing about living in London is that all the great European cities are just a hop skip and a jump away.
Even closer than Europe is the famous cities that span the entirety of the UK.
My partner and I are on a mission to get to know Britain better and embarked on a weekend trip to Oxford in March.
Oxford, around an hour out of London, is home to some of the world’s leading universities and exceptional architecture.
The Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel offered the opportunity to stay in the centre of town – and do it in style.
The 17th century building has recently been refurbished with a modern and comfortable look perfect for a quick trip away from home.
We drove from our north London home to the hotel in little over an hour and were met by friendly staff who were excited to check us in.
The room was situated in the historic townhouse with feature headboards of images from around the area.
It features a comfy bed and all the amenities that you need for a weekend away.
Its bathrooms were clean and modern with the most luxurious rainfall showers.
After checking out our lovely room with views of the town and freshening up, we stepped out to explore the town.
Remarkably, everything that you’d want to see including all the famous Oxford University colleges are literally on the doorstep of the hotel.
In an afternoon, we checked out the historic town, stopping by The Bodleian Library, the old colleges of the world-famous university and took a look at the local shops and boozers.
Connected to the hotel is the Marco Pierre White restaurant Marco’s New York Italian.
The food at Marco’s is affordable and delicious with it’s menu annotated with the rockstar chef’s personal preferences.
We enjoyed an excellent steak along with red wine and a Eton Mess-style dessert.
The following morning we enjoyed an a la carte breakfast menu back in Marco’s restaurant.
Naturally, as it was a weekend away we went for the full English.
Following breakfast we checked out of the hotel and took a drive to the nearby Cotswolds – just 40 minutes away.
Overall, I loved the feel and convenience of theThe Mercure Oxford Eastgate Hotel.
