Russia’s media regulator, Roskomnadzor has decided to ban PornHub and YouPorn sites. The outcry on social media has been huge. Many have seen it as unnecessary censorship, while other voices have welcomed the decision, as it protects children who might stray onto these free sites and see images too shocking for their young age.
Pornhub have seen the funny side of the ban though and they tweeted the Russian agency offering them a free Premium account.
The tweet said: “If we gave give you a guys Pornhub Premium account, will you un ban Pornhub in Russia?”
It looks like their generous offer will not change their minds. Free porn sites have faced problems in Russia recently, with ten other sites being blocked, with users told the sites “contained unlawful content.”
The decision to ban the sites came from two separate court hearings. One court banned PornHub while the other put a halt to You Porn. The courts concluded that the explicit porn sites ‘spread pornography,” which you can’t really argue with.
Many people on social media are not at all happy with court ruling, however the media regulator fought back. In one come back from last year they Tweeted: “Dear Lyolya, as an alternative you could try and meet someone in real life.” With the retweet it added the line “Dear lovers of the internet, this piece of advice still stands.”
One Tweeter who, probably tongue in cheek, claimed it as a result for Russia, and a boost to their homegrown porn industry, they tweeted: “By blocking PornHub and Youporn the government is supporting the domestic producer.”
It is yet to be seen if showing loyalty to ones country, by only watching erotica from your own nation, will catch on.
