Council paints Britain’s shortest & most pointless double yellow lines measuring just 35ins long

A council has been ridiculed for painting what could be Britain’s shortest double yellow lines measuring just 35 inches.

The tiny markings have been squeezed between a pedestrian crossing and a layby in Saltney, Cheshire.

Residents mocked the bungling local authority for painting the barmy lines which barely cover the length of a car tyre.

Retired secondary teacher Brian Anderson, 67, said: “The council must be mad if they think someone would park a car in that tiny space.

“It is barely big enough for a toy car let alone a normal one.

“Do these people have no common sense?”

Mum-of-two Andrea Johnson, 35, added: “It’s bad enough the council wastes money painting these joke yellow lines but across the road the yellow lines are cracked and faded.

“The road is full of potholes and it needs completely resurfacing yet some bright spark thinks it’s a priority to paint these tiny yellow lines.”

Writing on Facebook, Lilian Chapman said: “Is it to stop Dinky cars from parking?”

Bradley Harry posted: “The painter needs sacking, not even straight.”

The work was carried out on behalf of Flintshire Council.

Cllr Richard Lloyd said: “I don’t see the point of them, it must be said.

“They’re by traffic lights and a layby is in front them.

“Instead of tiny, pointless lines – I’d like to see some further down the road on St Davids Terrace, where cars are constantly parked on raised kerbs.”
