It comes as Southern Water threatened to use debt collection agencies against customers involved in a payment boycott in protest against continuing raw sewage discharges.
The EU is now worried that UK's decision to dump raw sewage into the Channel could end up 'harming fish' and 'polluting seafood'.
It comes after dozens of pollution warnings were issued for beaches and swimming spots in England and Wales last week following heavy rain that overwhelmed the sewage system.
Meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats branded govt plan “a cruel joke” and claimed their analysis of the proposal shows that by 2030, there will still be 325,000 sewage dumps a year.
In the last decade, there had been a reduction in investment in sewage infrastructure in England and defunding of regulators, with water companies left in charge of self-monitoring,

It comes as it is claimed that Tory leadership contender Liz Truss’s £235m cut to Environment Agency ‘doubled sewage discharge.’
