The former prime minister Boris Johnson said the guidelines on social distancing were not always ‘enforced rigidly’.
“It was not a social event. If anybody thinks I was partying during lockdown, they are completely wrong."
Mr Johnson accepted he misled MPs, but said his denials were made “in good faith” based on what he “honestly” knew at the time.
There is “no reason to believe” Sue Gray was not impartial when she investigated partygate, a Cabinet minister has said.
"We can’t understand how Boris Johnson dodged fines for going to parties that junior civil servants were fined for attending."
The claim is part of a number of new allegations made in an ITV podcast, Partygate: The Inside Story.
"I have obtained an exclusive image of Robert Walpole clearly enjoying himself in Downing Street - the scene of riotous lockdown parties only 300 years later," wrote one person in response.
