Professor David Abulafia said that the culture wars had made being “white”, “male” and “privileged” terms of disapproval in university admissions.
She said it discriminates against parents who spend on their children's education rather than buying "luxuries".
No university has ever placed higher than Oxford and Cambridge in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide.
