NHS Confederation chief executive Matthew Taylor has urged the Government and unions to call in the Acas conciliation agency.
England’s top doctor has warned that the walkouts are set to be ‘the most disruptive industrial action in NHS history’.
“In the last junior doctors’ strike, we saw about 175,000 appointments and operations having to be postponed."
Some 77 NHS hospital trusts in England provided the data, which showed that 59,566 operations have been cancelled since 2018.
The census figures highlight how recruitment from across the world has shaped the modern-day NHS.
The breakthrough follows days of talks with the Government over the long-running dispute over pay.
"Don't give up. Strengthen your system. Put money into the system. Do what you have to do to make sure you have the doctors and nurses."
