Lord Dubs praised the Match of the Day host for his humanitarian work and his pleas for more compassion in politics.
"It really makes local people say, 'well if the home secretary doesn't like these people why should we?'", the Labour peer said.
Braverman prompted an outcry in November when she told MPs that the south coast was facing an “invasion” of illegal migrants.
