The home secretary blasted attacks on the new Reform UK leader after he was hit by a milkshake during a campaign rally in Clacton.
Shaheen said she was in a “state of shock” following the announcement and offered an emotional apology to her supporters on Newsnight.
The former Labour leader offered his support to Diane Abbott amid the uncertainty over her General Election campaign.
The latest election campaign may only be a few days old, but tensions between Jeremy Corbyn and Labour are already flaring up.
Corbyn has been suspended by Labour since 2020.
“When I was first elected, I made a promise to stand by my constituents no matter what. In Islington North, we keep our promises.”
The former Labour leader will stand in Islington North, a seat he has held for 40 years.
