Small firms are facing a "ticking time bomb" without further support, industry chiefs warned.

Some Tory MPs complained the support package was “throwing red meat to socialists” and would damage investment in the sector.

It comes as hard-up shoppers are asking checkout staff to tell them when they hit £40 so they can put the rest of their food back on shelves.
