Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) chief constable Simon Byrne has warned of a “febrile” atmosphere.

“By installing Dominic Cummings’ Brexit apprentice as head of the so-called ‘Union unit’, the Prime Minister is demonstrating, yet again, that he is completely clueless about Scotland.”

Ireland’s foreign affairs minister has said any attempt to undermine the Northern Ireland Protocol poses “real difficulties”.

“It’s a monumentally stupid situation for a country supposed to be standing on its own two feet and exporting round the world.”
