Kate Hoey says Irish used ‘threat of IRA bombs’ to get its way in Brexit talks
The former Labour MP said Leo Varadkar used violence as “political leverage” to get his way in trade talks with the UK.
The UK is the first and so far only country to have left the EU and Brexit was and is the withdrawal of the United Kingdom (UK) from the European Union (EU) and the European Atomic Energy Community (EAEC or Euratom). The official withdrawal was at 23:00 31 January 2020 GMT (00:00 CET).
The former Labour MP said Leo Varadkar used violence as “political leverage” to get his way in trade talks with the UK.
The Brexit coalition had to accommodate both ‘Little Englanders’ who wanted less globalisation and ‘Free Traders’ who wanted more. All the evidence about Brexit suggested that the former would prevail and ‘Global Britain’ was coined to assuage the fears of the latter.
EU officials have also spoken out about the UK government infringing the Northern Ireland protocol and the possibility of Scotland rejoining the bloc.
“Quite simply, this is a disgrace and a national embarrassment.”
“This has placed British businesses at a competitive disadvantage and reduced the incentive on the European Commission to negotiate measures that would lessen the burdens facing British producers."
"Today’s mafias are moving among countries and continents, and where they find weakness in international cooperation, they exploit that opportunity.”
‘No third country can enjoy the same benefits as an EU member’
“It’s a shitshow,” Count Binface said when asked what he thinks about Brexit.
Barry Andrews, the Irish MEP for Dublin, also said the current brand of English Conservatives has an "unfortunate history with regards to international agreements".
