The representative for North West Leicestershire had already lost the party whip and was sitting in the Commons as an independent.

"There is no possibility that Bridgen can be allowed to stand at the next election. He cannot claim that he didn’t realise the level of offence that his remarks cause."
An independent panel dismissed his appeal ‘on all grounds’ and said his punishment could have been harsher.
The Standards Committee also found he committed an ‘unacceptable attack upon the integrity’ of the standards commissioner.
"Why not the FBI?", one person responded on Twitter, while another said "Durham is in Durham, you absolute casserole."
The Tory MP lied under oath during a fraught case about a multimillion-pound family dispute.
