Sean Dyche has emerged as the favourite to win this year’s Premier League Manager of the Year in what is expected to be one of the most hotly contested accolades in history.
The Burnley manager has navigated the Clarets to 7th in the league on a shoestring budget. With one game left to play the club has amassed a remarkable 54 points with season highlights including a shock season-opening win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and victories at Goodison Park and London Stadium.
Dyche was backed by almost a third of people in a recent poll, ahead of Manchester City’s gaffer Pep Guardiola in second position.
City have been dominant this season and still have the opportunity to reach the 100 point mark, despite facing a wealth of competition.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was backed by a fifth of people who participated in the poll, with the German taking the Anfield side to the Champions League final and cementing their position in next year’s competition with his entertaining brand of football.
Plaudits also rang out for Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez who guided the Magpies to a top half finish on a reduced budget and Crystal Palace gaffer Roy Hodgson, who saved the club from relegation to earn a respectable position against the odds.
Brighton’s Chris Hughton is also among the nominations for this year’s award.
