Former Aston Villa & Doncaster Rovers starlet facing jail after being convicted of battering woman

A former Premier League and England starlet is facing jail after being convicted of viciously assaulting a woman and battering her with his SHOE.

Ex-Aston Villa footballer Riccardo Calder, 22, attacked the 24-year-old victim after meeting her in a nightclub in Kings Heath, Birmingham, on May 7 this year.

Magistrates heard Calder, who now plays for Scottish side Caledonian Thistle, dropped her back to her car in the early hours in the morning.

But he became angry when she collided with the back of his car as she started to follow him in her vehicle.

They both drove to a pub car park before the former England U-17 star walked up to the victim and began punching her several times through the open window.

JPs heard once she got out the car Calder, who is a part-time rapper, continued to assault her by kicking and swinging a shoe at her.

She suffered significant bruising to her eyes and face, a fracture to her thumb and a cut to her lip.

On Tuesday (6/11) Calder was found guilty of assault following a trial at Birmingham Magistrates Court and will be sentenced at the city’s crown court on December 4.

Samantha Morgan, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said after the case: “The assault has left the victim with significant injuries and as the defendant was known to the victim, identification was not an issue.

“The court did not accept that the defendant acted in self-defence due to the sustained attack evidenced by the CCTV.

“The clarity of the CCTV supported the CPS case which has resulted in a guilty verdict.”
