Cristiano Ronaldo wipes billions off Coca-Cola’s market value following press conference snub

Cristiano Ronaldo removing two Coca-Cola bottles during a press conference at the Euros has coincided with a $4 billion fall in the share price of the drinks giant.

The 36-year-old shifted the bottles of the fizzy drink away from him during a press conference yesterday in the run up to the country’s Group F game against Hungary.

They won the game 3-0, he scored twice and is now the UEFA European Championships’ all-time top scorer.

The Portugal striker grabbed his 10th goal – and later 11th – taking him clear of French legend Michel Platini.

Ronaldo followed it by holding up bottle of water before declaring in Portuguese: “Agua!”.

Coca-Cola’s share price dropped from $56.10 to $55.22 almost immediately after Ronaldo’s gesture, a 1.6 per cent dip. The market value of Coca-Cola went from $242 billion to $238 billion – a drop of $4 billion.

Then Paul Pogba mirrored Ronaldo’s Coca-Cola snub by removing a Heineken beer bottle during his press conference.

The devout Muslim moved the drink from the table in front of him following France’s 1-0 win against Germany last night.

Ronaldo leaving?

Manchester United have reportedly made an offer to bring Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford. The Daily Mail, via Gazzetta dello Sport, says the Red Devils have reached out to Juventus with a deal worth £17million a year for the 36-year-old forward. Ronaldo is believed to be open to any “suitable” move, however his preferred destination is Paris St Germain.

The paper also says Paul Pogba could be offered to the Italian giants as a sweetener to get the deal across the line. The 28-year-old’s future at United is uncertain and Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri is speculated to be eager to revamp his side.

Why should you drink water?

So why should you drink water? Water makes up two-thirds of our body, so common sense dictates that drinking the pure stuff should be high up on the daily to do list. The NHS points out that good hydration can help prevent many health problems including urinary tract infections, headaches, constipation, dizziness and kidney stones.

Part of the reason why water is good for your health is because it helps flush away toxins, excess sugar and salt from the body when we urinate. Plus, it’s free as well as healthy – what’s not to like about that? It also contains no calories at all, and no sugar either, so it won’t damage your teeth.
