The Prime Minister has called the NHS “unconquerable” after seeing first-hand how it was dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
Boris Johnson was discharged from hospital on Easter Sunday, a week after being admitted with persistent coronavirus symptoms.
In a video posted on Twitter, the PM said the “NHS has saved my life, no question”.
His comments come as it was confirmed the number of those who had died in UK hospitals after contracting Covid-19 had breached the 10,000 mark, in what Health Secretary Matt Hancock called a “sombre” moment for the country.
“Milking the NHS for votes”
However it is worth reminding people that in 2017 all but one Tory MP blocked Labour’s attempt to scrap the 1 per cent cap on public sector pay rises and better fund the emergency services in an amendment to the Queen’s Speech.
They won by a majority of 14 thanks to the help of the DUP , accusing Jeremy Corbyn’s party of playing politics and “milking the NHS for votes”.
Victorious Tories cheered as the 323-309 result came in – leading to attacks on their tone.
The then Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said: “The Conservatives had the opportunity to end cuts to our police and fire service and lift the Public Sector Pay Cap.
“Although government ministers said they had learned the lessons of the General Election and were listening to voters, it is clear that nothing has changed.”
