Jeremy Hunt, the current Chancellor of the Exchequer, is 5/2 to be relieved of his portfolio before the time of the next General Election.
Under mounting pressure following recent by-election losses, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is widely expected to undertake a Cabinet reshuffle soon and Hunt appears to be one of the figures in his crosshairs.
Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride is the bookmaker’s 3/1 frontrunner to replace Hunt, while Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves is also a 3/1 chance, suggesting she’s fancied to take the role if Hunt isn’t replaced until the next General Election.
Hunt isn’t expected to shy away from another term in Parliament though and, despite his South West Surrey seat being dissolved and split into two under boundary changes, he’s 1/7 to stand as a candidate when the UK next goes to the polls.
William Hill spokesperson, Lee Phelps, said: “It’s not only the whispers around Westminster suggesting Jeremy Hunt’s time as Chancellor may be running out, as his odds of being shuffled out of Cabinet are now just 5/2.
“Mel Stride looks a likely candidate for the role of Chancellor given his work at the DWP and is fancied at 3/1, but the smart money might be on Rachel Reeves given Labour are heavy favourites to form the next Government.
“Locally, Jeremy Hunt is also having to deal with new boundary changes in South West Surrey, but we still think he’s very likely to run for Parliament again at just 1/7.”
