A young woman was run over and killed by a police car that was responding to an emergency.
The 21-year-old was fatally struck by the car that was rushing to reports that a man was threatening members of the public.
Met Police say the horror incident happened just before midnight on Tuesday, in Walthamstow, east London.
Paramedics and police tried but were unable to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A police spokesperson said: “The police car stopped at the scene and the officers administered first aid prior to the arrival of London Ambulance Service and paramedics from London’s Air Ambulance.
“Sadly, the 21-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are underway to trace her next of kin, who are believed to be outside the UK.”
The Directorate of Professional Standards Independent Office for Police Conduct have been informed.
