A nanny from Zimbabwe claims she is entitled to thousands of pounds from Boris Johnson, after she was sacked just days into her new role with the family. Theresa Dawes, 59, believes that the former PM’s partner Carrie was behind the decision.
Who is Boris Johnson’s nanny, and why was she fired?
Speaking to The Mirror, Dawes explained that she was hired to help following the birth of their latest child, Fred. She started work when Carrie was still in hospital, immediately after the birth. It was then, she claims, that BoJo invited her for a drink on the terrace.
Although that exchange was amicable, it was said that the mood changed dramatically when Carrie returned home. Reportedly, her mother had told her that the nanny shared a glass of wine with Boris – to ‘wet the baby’s head’.
Carrie Johnson accused of dismissing nanny
This, allegedly, did not go down well. Dawes describes ‘being ignored’ by Carrie when she entered the home, and shortly afterwards, she was told that the family ‘had not gelled’ and they would be seeking a replacement urgently. An Uber was subsequently called.
Meanwhile, Boris Johnson is understood to have said he was ‘powerless’ to change Carrie’s mind, stating that she was ‘hormonal’ after becoming a mother again. It’s also suspected she did not like one of Dawes’ accounts of another family she worked for.
Spokesperson for Boris Johnson denies claims
The dismissed caregiver said that she had been stationed in a household that did not like Boris following his Partygate antics. This, apparently, left a sour taste. Dawes now says she is chasing money owed to her, after a contractual agreement ‘was not honoured’.
Meanwhile, a statement published by a Johnson family spokesperson categorically denies these claims:
“The account given by Theresa Dawes is completely untrue. It is very disappointing to see someone who sought a position of trust abuse it, just so she can create a completely false story for her own personal financial gain.” | Statement from Boris Johnson and family
