Emma Dent Coad was born in London in 1954. Dent Coad began her political career in the late 1990s, when she became a councillor for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. She remained in this position for many years, and it was during this time that she gained a reputation as a community activist and campaigner. In 2017, Dent Coad was elected as the MP for the Kensington constituency as a member of the Labour Party. At the time, she was the first woman to ever hold the position.
