US Presidential hopeful, who is tipped to win, Donald Trump made a trip south of the border, to Mexico, yesterday and met with their President Enrique Pena Nieto.
It was a landmark meeting as Trump hasn’t been very complimentary about people from Mexico in the past.
He once, among other shocking statements, said this about his Mexicans neighbours: “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you.
They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
As one would expect the meeting probably was tense at times, however after the meeting they declared they had not discussed the building of a wall across the whole border between the two countries.
But later in the evening he told a partisan gathering in Arizona that Mexico will pay for the whole wall, “100 per cent.” Many of his supporters are keen for Trump to carry out the construction of the wall and to stem the flow of Mexicans into the US.
He wants a two thousand mile wall that, he stated, would be bristling with sensors, towers and border guards. Trump sai: “We will build a great wall along the southern border. And Mexico will pay for the wall, 100%. They don’t know it yet, but they’re going to pay for it.”
Trump also made some worrying references regarding the approximately eleven million of undocumented immigrants who are in America.
He said: “Anyone who has entered the United States illegally is subject to deportation. That is what it means to have laws.”
He also added he wanted to create a “special deportation force” to remove immigrants arrested (not convicted) for crimes. He also wants to cut off any path to citizenship and insisted those seeking legal status must return to their own countries first pending a decision and will introduce a system of “extreme vetting” for immigrants ensuring they adhered to American values.
