Watch: Israeli hostage shakes hands with Hamas captors

Footage has shown the incredible moment an Israeli hostage turned to shake hands with one of the masked Hamas militants who had held her captive following the October 7th raids.

Yokheved Lifschitz, 85, has been delivered from a hellish ordeal by her captives and has spoken of the brutality and mercy shown towards her during the 16 days she spent as a hostage in Gaza.

At a press conference on Tuesday Lifschitz said that after initial violence her Hamas captors had shown “care” and “gentleness” – a rare description of humanity in a savage conflict that may turn even bloodier.

She said hostages had been treated well and given medicine by their captors.

As she was released to Red Cross officials, Mrs Lifshitz was seen reaching back to shake the hand of one of the Palestinian militants as she said “Shalom”, a greeting in Hebrew meaning peace.
