UKIP launch policy that was once a joke fundraiser

UKIP has pledged to build a floating wall across the Channel in a bid to stop migrants in the latest sign that the party has become a parody of itself.

The policy, which would require a mammoth infrastructural effort from the country that can’t connect London to Manchester and may, you know, prove problematic for all the other boats making the crossing, was included in a flyer posted on the party’s X account.

It read: “UKIP will deploy floating barriers in the English Channel to keep illegals in EU waters next to two boats connected by what appears to be a fishing net.

But what the party failed to realise is that the policy has been proposed before – as a joke.

Simon Harris previously launched a mock fundraiser “to build a sea border to protect the United Kingdom from illegal immigrants”.

In it, he uploaded a mock design and included plans to create barriers similar to the ones in swimming pools but made with Bostik rather than plastic and installed by hovercrafts.

In the event that an illegal vessel comes into contact with it, it would remain stuck in place until the French navy arrives to rescue them, and if enough boats get stuck to it in one go, the whole thing could simply be towed back to the French coast, the fundraiser notes.

Harris has posted reminders of this on social media following the UKIP announcement, and it might just be peak 2023.
