The Conservatives suffered blows across every metric in a post-Chequers poll.

Labour opened up a two point gap ahead of Theresa May’s beleaguered party following a raft of resignations last week, with just 13 per cent of the British public saying they believe we will get a good deal out of Brexit.

Forty-two per cent said they expect a bad deal to be in the offing and just 23 per cent say the deal “respects the referendum”, indicating that the public has rejected the Chequers deal along with several prominent politicians.

May has faced a huge backlash from her fellow Conservatives following the meeting last Friday.

David Davis and Boris Johnson both handed in their resignations and two Tory party vice-chairs quit over the deal.

Little wonder, therefore, that 75 per cent of the British public believe the government is doing a bad job of handling Brexit.

Forty-three per cent called for May to stand down in the poll, with David Davis is among the frontrunners to replace her according to the latest odds along with Michael Gove and Jacob Rees-Mogg.
