A special needs carer desperately tried to save an 18-year-old boy’s life after he was fatally stabbed by moped attackers last night (mon).
The 27-year-old first-aider refused to believe the teenager was dead for ten minutes before police told her to stop CPR.
Murder Squad cops are appealing for witnesses after he was pronounced dead at the scene in a council estate in Greenwich, south east London.
He was the 115th to be murdered in the capital this year.
A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said her granddaughter Kirsty who works with children with special needs was “so upset” after trying to save the victim’s life.
The grandmother said: “She is so upset. She done the CPR and his eyes were open, looking at her but he was dead.
“She thought she had got him back but police said it might have been his last breathe.”
She added: “We all came out , I was in my daughter’s because it was my grandson’s birthday and I was coming out to go home and my daughter said, ‘oh there’s someone on the floor.
“A bloke said he’s already dead but my granddaughter tried to get him back. I walked over and when this man said he was dead I turned away.
“But Kirsty went into over drive and was pumping and pumping. She did it until the police arrived, for about 10 minutes.
“She cares for everybody, that’s why she went forward She didn’t know him, none of us did.
“The police said she had to go and have a hot drink and she went home.
“It was too dark to see anything.”
Other neighbours said they did not recognise the victim but believed he was black. They claimed the murder appeared to be a “gangland” hit.
Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard, who is leading the investigation, said: “We know that several people reported seeing the victim in a confrontation with three other males on mopeds before an altercation in which he sustained his injuries.
“The males then rode away from the scene. I need anyone who may have information that could assist us to make contact as quickly as possible.”
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “A murder investigation has been launched after an 18-year-old man was fatally stabbed in Greenwich.
“Police were called on Monday at 9.25pm to a report of a disturbance in Armitage Road, Greenwich.
“Officers attended and found an 18-year-old man suffering from a stab injury outside Collins House.
“The London Ambulance Service were called; the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 10.03pm.
“His next of kin have been informed. We await formal identification; a post-mortem examination is expected to be held today at Greenwich Public Mortuary.
“At this early stage there have been no arrests.
“A crime scene remains in place and an investigation has been launched by the Homicide and Major Crime Command.”
