Senior police officer charged with assault after allegedly ‘shoulder-barging’ female colleague

A senior police officer has been charged with assault after allegedly ‘shoulder-barging’ a female colleague.

Chief Inspector Andrew Johnstone has been placed on restricted duties after being charged with common assault following an incident during an event at New Scotland Yard in central London in January

A Met Police spokesman said: “Andrew Johnstone, 51, a Chief Inspector based at the Roads and Transport Policing Command, was charged by postal requisition notice on Wednesday July 4th.

“He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday July 30th.

“Chief Inspector Johnstone is currently on restricted duties.”

A source said a female police officer claimed she was deliberately ‘shoulder-barged’ while on duty at an event at New Scotland Yard on January 17.

She was not injured, but Johnstone was charged after being interviewed under caution in March.
