Scotland Yard has launched the third murder investigation of the New Year after the death of a woman in her 30s in east London.
The woman was found dead after police received a call over concerns for her well being and went to the address on the Isle of Dogs on Saturday teatime.
A man, 32, who knew the woman was arrested at the scene on East Ferry Road for her murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine said: “We are at an early stage in our investigation but require the assistance of the public to help us piece together what exactly happened.
“If you heard or saw anything at the address that seemed out of place or of concern on Saturday 5 January or the days leading up to it, please don’t hesitate to contact us.”
A police spokesperson said: “Detectives are investigating a suspicious death in Tower Hamlets.
“A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
“Police were called at 6.20pm on Saturday to East Ferry Road following concerns for the welfare of a resident.
“Officers attended and found a woman deceased.
“Formal identification of the woman, who is believed to be aged in her 30s, is yet to take place, and her next of kin have not yet been informed.
“A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.
“A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He has been taken to an east London police station where he remains in custody.
“The deceased and the arrested man were known to each other.
“The Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command (HMCC) are investigating.”
So far this year murder squad detectives are investigating the deaths of bouncer Tudor Simionov, 33, and mum-of-one Charlotte Huggins, 33, both stbbed on New Year’s Day.
Romanian Mr Simionov was stabbed outside a VIP party in Park Lane, central London, in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Ms Huggins was knifed to death at her home in Camberwell, south east London, also in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Last year there were 134 murder investigations in the capital.
The last murder of 2018 was of a woman, 50, found strangled in a tower block flat in Poplar on December 30.
