Bernie Sanders will run for president against Trump in 2020, if he gets the Democrat nomination. There is already a number of other political figures who are hoping to secure the nomination for themselves.
He was runner-up in the 2016 Democratic primary, losing out to Hillary Clinton and is making a second attempt to win the Democratic Party’s nomination.
He made the announcement in an interview with Vermont Public Radio Tuesday morning.
“I wanted to let the people of the state of Vermont know about this first,” he told the radio station. “And what I promise to do is, as I go around the country, is to take the values that all of us in Vermont are proud of — a belief in justice, in community, in grassroots politics, in town meetings — that’s what I’m going to carry all over this country.”
Today he also commented: “Together, you and I and our 2016 campaign began the political revolution.
“Now, it is time to complete that revolution and implement the vision that we fought for.”
Sanders told CNN in 2018: “I can tell you very happily, and I think any objective observer would confirm what I’m saying, is that in the last year and half or so, the Democratic party has moved in a far more progressive direction than they were before I ran for president.”
He called out Trump as “the most dangerous president in modern American history,” as well as a “pathological liar, a fraud, a racist, a sexist, a xenophobe and someone who is undermining American democracy as he leads us in an authoritarian direction.”
