This remarkable image showing dozens of seals popping their heads out of the sea and looking right at the camera has split opinions over whether it’s real or not. Geoff Chrisp, 58, captured the unique moment at Ross Sands in Northumberland, with iconic Lindisfarne Castle in the background. But his stunning image has sparked a debate on social media with users arguing over whether it is fake. Geoff said he was enjoying a day out with his wife Sandy, 58, and friends when they came across more than 100 inquisitive seals on the shores.

A bid has been launched to raise £10k to build a statue to remember Walnut the Whippet on the beach where hundreds joined the poorly pooch for his final walk. The 18-year-old pet captured the hearts of the nation after his owner Mark Woods posted an appeal for dogs and their owners to join him one last time. Mark, 53, of Newquay, Cornwall, who launched the #walkwithwalnut appeal on social media, said he had been overwhelmed by the response from across the world. And some of his many supporters have now launched a campaign for a permanent statue at Porth beach where dog walkers from across the country gathered on Saturdaymorning for Walnut’s emotional last stroll.

The three-year old’s couture outfit is courtesy of Coffeeman Devon Limited of Newton Abbot, who donated hessian sacks to the Zoo. Keepers at Paignton Zoo (a registered charity) give orang utans – and many other species – different things to play with in order to stimulate them mentally and physically.
