Murder Squad cops probing the fatal stabbing of a teenage college student outside a south London tube station have arrested a 17-year-old.
Police say the suspect was held earlier today (MON) on suspicion of the murder of 17-year-old Malcolm Mide-Madariola near Clapham South station on Friday.
He remains in custody at a south London police station.
Detective Chief Inspector John Massey, of the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: “While we have made an arrest and this investigation continues to move at pace I would reiterate my appeal for information.
“The stabbing in Balham Hill followed an altercation a few minutes earlier involving two small groups of young males near to Clapham South Underground station.
“However I don’t believe anyone involved had travelled on the tube.
“There were a large number of people present when emergency services arrived at the scene, and although many have come forward, I want to ensure that we have spoken to all potential witnesses.
“If you were in the area and saw anything suspicious – in particular if you saw an altercation or anything suspicious on Friday afternoon near to Clapham South station – then please call the incident room.”
Malcolm, who lived in Peckham, south east London, and was a student at a college in Clapham, wasone of four peeople stabbed to death in just five days in London.
A post-mortem was due to be held today at St George’s Hospital Mortuary in Tooting.
