A 36-year-old man has been arrested following a police appeal for a suspect that went viral because he resembled Friends actor David Schwimmer.
Lancashire Police said the suspect was arrested in Southall, West London, on Monday evening by Met Police officers.
The David Schwimmer lookalike is alleged to have stolen a crate of beer from a Blackpool restaurant on September 20.
The force said: “Thank you for the support, especially @DavidSchwimmer!”
The CCTV image went viral last month after people pointed out the resemblance between the suspect and Friends character Ross.
Friends actor David Schwimmer released his own hilarious video ‘proving’ Ross wasn’t the suspect behind the theft because he was currently New York.
He released a video on Twitter, writing: ‘Officers, I swear it wasn’t me. As you can see, I was in New York. To the hardworking Blackpool Police good luck with the investigation. #itwasntme’’
The star played one of the show’s six main characters, Ross Geller – sister of Monica – when it aired for 236 episodes over 10 years, from 1994.
A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said: “Thanks to our colleagues, Metropolitan Police Service, a 36-year-old man was arrested in Southall last night on suspicion of theft.
“We would like to thank you all for the huge response we received and a special thanks to David Schwimmer for seeing the funny side of our appeal.”
