"Try being the parent of a disabled child," one person told Nick Ferrari, while others labelled his suggestions "inhuman".
“I was homeless myself… two o’clock in the morning, I’m sleeping on the porch of St Martin’s, somebody taps me, gives me a fiver and gives me a hug,” the charity's founder said.
“Christmas can be a time of excess and it is more and more causing people to think about how that impact can be mitigated," one union leader has said.
