A man has appeared in court after a brutal attack during which a woman was punched repeatedly in the head outside a club on New Year’s Day. The video of the incident was shared widely on social media and published in various news publications.

Andrew Akingbaje, 23, of Brixton, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the attack in Clapham.

He has also been charged with two counts of assault by beating against two other women alleged to have taken place during the same incident on New Year’s Day.

The victim, Krystal Mission, 21, was brutally beaten outside Lotus nightclub, in Clapham, south London, in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Akingbaje, who wore a grey tracksuit at Camberwell Magistrates’ Court, pleaded not guilty to all offences and was released on conditional bail until January 31, where he will next appear.

Magistrate David Armitage said: “You have pleaded not guilty to this matter, the bench have declined jurisdiction.

“You are on conditional bail and must live at the address you gave us with an 8pm to 6am curfew.
