Reactions as Laurence Fox loses £10k deposit

Reclaim Party’s Laurence Fox has lost his £10,000 deposit after obtaining just 1.9 per cent of votes in the London Mayor elections.

He is not the only candidate who can’t claim his money back. The world’s smallest violins are also out for UKIP’s Peter Gammons, Piers Corbyn (Let London Live) and Brian Rose (London Real) – also known as Dick Braine’s successor, the guy who compared vaccines to Auschwitz, and the wee-drinking candidate.

They all obtained between 0.6 and 1.2 per cent of the votes.

The money is returned only to candidates who achieve five per cent or more of first-preference votes.

Fox said he was “profoundly moved” by the number of votes he obtained.
