Katie Hopkins is broke after losing libel case brought by Jack Monroe

Controversial Katie Hopkins has applied for involuntary solvency after losing a libel case against author Jack Monroe, to avoid bankruptcy.

In 2017, she was forced to pay £24,000 libel damages and legal costs to Jack Monroe after she implied that the author had vandalised a war memorial in a tweet during 2015.

The BBC has reported that legal costs are allegedly £107,000.

On Saturday, Monroe told her followers: “I have been paid in full, but many of her creditors, including my lawyer will not be paid what they are owed.

“For the want of an apology, a house, a job, a column, a radio show and now financial solvency were lost. It’s all very sad actually.”
