A driver who mowed down a teenager in broad daylight and left him for dead is being hunted.
The 19-year-old victim was rushed to hospital in a “critical” condition after he suffered a serious head injury.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the hit and run horror involving a silver VW car in Twickenham, south west London, yesterday (WED) lunchtime.
The victim was said to be in a “stable” condition in hospital earlier today (THURS).
They want to hear from any drivers who may have dashcam footage of the incident in St Margaret’s Road at around 1.30pm.
The silver VW did not stop and was last seen heading towards the A316.
Detective Sergeant Wendy Parker, of the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I believe the car that failed to stop was a silver, five-door VW, probably a Golf or a Polo.
“Urgent enquiries are ongoing to trace this vehicle.
“The driver of this car should be in no doubt as to the seriousness of the incident, and must surely realise that the only sensible option is to come forward now and speak with police.
“I also want to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who has information about the silver VW involved.”
She added: “I am making progress in identifying relevant CCTV, but I am asking for help from drivers with dashcams who were travelling along St Margaret’s Road, Twickenham around the time of the collision.
“The silver VW was driven from Richmond Bridge towards the A316, and any footage showing such a vehicle could be crucial to the investigation.
“Local businesses on St Margaret’s Road may also have useful CCTV. If you have not yet been contacted by police, please do check footage and call me with any relevant information.”
