An outspoken German minister has pulled no punches when discussing the members of the UK cabinet.
Michael Roth said that ninety per cent of the cabinet have “no idea how workers think, live, work and behave.” He said that the cabinet attended elite schools and universities ,were not in touch with the general public and would not feel the harsh reality of post-Brexit Britain.
He then called Brexit a “big shitshow.”
Roth, 48, made the controversial comments on Saturday at the SPD (Social Democratic party’s) conference.
He also added: “I don’t know if William Shakespeare could have come up with such a tragedy but who will foot the bill?”
Roth also made a rallying cry against growing nationalism across Europe, and that the EU was a safety net against extremism, he said: “Europe is a life insurance in times of crisis and Europe brings the opportunity to cross borders, destroy walls, bring people together and foster solidarity.
“We are seeing these days how fragile that is, and how little we can take that for granted. When people give themselves up to nationalists and populists, they are betrayed.”
Old Etonian Jacob Rees-Mogg has since been criticised for tweeting a video of a speech by one of the co-leaders of Germany’s populist party Alternative für Deutschland.
