The Ukip leader, Gerard Batten, has appointed Tommy Robinson as an official adviser.
Robsinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was the driving force behind the EDL. Batten has indicated that he will be advising the party on grooming gangs,
Robinson, who faces a possible retrial after successfully appealing against a jail term for contempt of court, can’t join Ukip quite yet though, as currently EDL members are not permitted to join the party.
Gerard Batten’s predecessor Nigel Farage has warned the party faces “total and utter marginalisation” if it allows in divisive figures such as Robinson into the party.
Batten attended a protest rally in support of Robinson in London in July that descended into violence against the police.
This autumn we revealed how Ukip has been using fringe figures with sickening views to appeal to far right and more extreme people to join the party.
