Trains leaving Kings Cross heading to Europe could be stopped at the French border if a no-deal Brexit scenario occurs, according to France’s European Affairs minister, Nathalie Loiseau.
Loiseau said: “If we do nothing, and if we reach no agreement, this is what would happen among other examples.
“We cannot wake up on March 30 and say to our fellow citizens and to our business: ‘Wow we thought it would never happen so we are not ready.’”
She continued: “I will go to the French parliament in the coming weeks with a draft bill so that we get prepared for each and every scenario.”
Rupa Huq, a Labour MP and supporter of the People’s Vote campaign, told the Independent: “No-one voted for a Brexit that results in flights being grounded or the Eurotunnel being closed down, but that’s what the French Europe minister was warning about today.
“The gap between the Brexit that was promised and the one that’s being delivered grows wider all the time.”
