Today Jeremy Corbyn has laid into May in the Commons over the Brexit deal, he told the House that the deal did not meet the six tests Labour needed the plan to pass for his party support it.
He called the deal “half baked,” and he said that he had no confidence that Government could sort a deal out by end of 2020. He said if a deal is not agreed by the end of 2020, there would be further huge financial penalties to EU.
He said that the backstop would mean that there is a border down the Irish sea, causing major issues with Northern Ireland.
Corbyn said it is “far fetched” that this deal give us control over our borders or meets any of its main aims, also workers’ rights would not be protected.
He claimed that Wales and Scotland ministers had told May the customs union is essential to continue our relationship with EU.
He went on that there is no clarity on the immigration system with the EU, and after the Windrush scandal there will be no confidence that the Government can carry it out properly.
He said: “This is not the deal Parliament expected and will not accept it.
“The Government must withdraw this half baked deal, and it doesn’t have backing of this Parliament or the country as a whole.”
