The Labour party has been struggling with internal conflict and Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership has constantly come under attack, leaving little time to launch any policy initiatives.
Now the Labour party has pledged to increase the minimum wage to £10 an hour if they win the next election.
The policy would leave full-time employees on basic earnings better off by more than £2,500 while 21 to 24-year-olds on lower wage rates would be in line for a £4,500 hike.
The polls are not looking good for the Labour party at the moment, but they are hoping policies like this will appeal to low income voters.
This £10 an hour pay rise would see six million workers receiving an increase in their pay packets.
There are local elections coming up next month and Labour are hoping to make gains, however it is feared they could face a poor round of results.
Leader Mr Corbyn is expected to say today while on a visit to Luton: “Low pay blights the lives of huge and growing numbers in our country and fuels widening inequality.
“The government’s re-branding of the minimum wage to the national living wage hasn’t dealt with the real problems of low pay and rising cost of living.
“That’s why Labour will raise the legal minimum wage for all to at least £10 an hour by 2020, giving more than five and a half million people a pay rise in the process.”
The current Conservative Government are hoping to raise the national living wage to £9 per hour by 2020.
