A thug is facing jail after he battered a man in an unprovoked attack before dumping his unconscious body in a shopping trolley.
Ryan Smith, 24, battered Twaha Yahaya in a shocking attack in the early hours of August 8 last year.
After knocking the 27-year-old unconscious, Smith hauled his body into a shopping trolley before wheeling him to a park where he dumped him.
Passersby found Mr Yahaya and dialled 999 and he was rushed to hospital with catastrophic injuries, including a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.
He spent several weeks in a coma before being treated for life-changing injuries.
Mr Yahaya suffered permanent brain damage, has memory loss and struggles to move his left arm.
Smith, of Kingsthorpe, Northants., was arrested and on Thursday (7/2) he was found guilty of grievous bodily harm at Northampton Crown Court.
The court heard Smith launched a frenzied attack on Mr Yahaya in an unprovoked attack.
He then lifted Mr Yahaya into a discarded shopping trolley and pushed his near lifeless body to Nursery Lane, next to Kingsthorpe Rec, Northants.
Mr Yahaya was taken to University Hospital Coventry where he was treated for a fractured skull and a bleed to the brain.
Detective Inspector James Larkin, of Northamptonshire Police, said: “We are delighted by today’s verdict which follows a thorough, lengthy and complex investigation by this Force.
“Twaha was left with life-changing injuries as a result of a motiveless attack carried out with extreme violence before being cynically dumped into a trolley and left in a nearby park.
“I hope Twaha and his family will take some comfort from today’s verdict and that he is able to continue the very long road to recovery which he has begun in the months since the attack.”
Speaking after the verdict Mr Yahaha’s mother, Zainab, said: “I wouldn’t wish this to happen to anyone’s son, daughter or relative.”
Smith will be sentenced on February 18.
