Man who took a running jump on to a tent sheltering two homeless people has been jailed

This is the shocking moment a yob is caught on CCTV jumping feet first on to a tent which had two homeless people sleeping inside.

Jamie Nickell, 26, took a run-up before launching himself at the makeshift shelter which was pitched in a shop doorway.

His pal Jake Mann, 29, filmed the attack in the early hours on November 30 last year in Hull, East Yorks.

The court was told how Nickell and Mann, who travelled to the city to see a concert, had been drinking and laughed in the aftermath of the assault.

One of the defendants was heard shouting during the incident: “You dirty, scumbag, trampy bastards.”

The attack led to one of the homeless men, Steven Cadman suffering a minor injury to his knee.

Nickell, from Lincoln, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and was sentenced to four months in prison at Hull Crown Court on Friday.

On Monday, Mann, of Goldsmith Walk, Lincoln was jailed for 14 weeks for his part in the attack.

Passing sentence on Friday, Judge Mark Bury described the attack as “repugnant”.

Speaking after the hearing, Hull Central Neighbourhoods Inspector Julian Hart said this afternoon: “We do not put up with this type of antisocial and violent behaviour in Hull.

“My officers work tirelessly in all our communities all across the city to tackle such issues.

“This was a reckless and thoughtless act that took place after the pair had been drinking which could have resulted in much more serious injuries.

“I’m very glad it didn’t and fortunately the two men in the tent were not seriously hurt.

“We all want our city to be a safe and good place to live, and we’re continuing our work to make sure that is the case.

“This wasn’t a joke. This wasn’t a bit of fun. This was a serious assault that has resulted in two men being sent to prison.”
