Couple turn their garden hedge into 8ft-tall Pac-Man

A couple have told why they have turned their front garden hedge into an 8ft-tall PAC-MAN.

Patrick and Sandra Moyle have spent the last two years shaping the bush to look like the pill-popping game character.

They’ve even designed it so that its mouth includes the road sign for their cul-de-sac in Ivybridge, Devon.

Patrick, 66, a retired police officer, said the idea first took root with their son-in-law Thomas Merkl.

He was waiting for a knee replacement two years ago when Thomas, 45, offered to help out in the garden.

While trimming the hedge he decided to have a bit of fun with it and began to create the Pac Man – and they have kept it since.

The retired pair say they work together to maintain the design which has proved popular with their neighbours.

Patrick said: “It was a bit of a joke and he didn’t think we’d like it.”

Sandra, 61, said: “Everyone likes it, it brightens their day. Most people find it humorous.”

The couple’s daughter Laura and her husband live in Germany with their three daughters, but said that they’ll always spend the summer in Devon visiting family.

Thomas attempted to one-up his previous creation, though sadly it didn’t go to plan.

“He was going to make it into a minion this year but there wasn’t enough foliage,” said Sandra.
