Care worker who stole over £20,000 from three vulnerable adults is caged

A thieving care worker who stole over £20,000 from three vulnerable adults she was looking after, has been jailed for 18 months.

Callous Danielle Broughton, 30, used the victim’s bank cards and pin numbers to draw the money out of ATMs between June 2017 and January 2018 to pay off debt collectors.

Broughton, of Audmore Road, Gnosall, Stafford, stole the money, a total of £22,420, when she was employed as a team leader at a residential home in the Stafford area.

The pilfering was discovered when the home’s manager noticed the cards were missing from the safe and unauthorised transactions appeared on the residents’ bank statements.

On Wednesday (24/10) she was sentenced at Stafford Crown Court after previously pleading guilty to three counts of fraud by false representation on October 5.

Detective Constable Andrew Clarke, of Staffordshire Police’s Adult Safeguarding Enquiry Team, said: “Broughton was in a position of trust and exploited three vulnerable adults to steal from them.

“What she did was a blatant breach of trust.”
